Eco-Afro Futures Initiative
Eco Afro Futures is Critical Ecology Lab's flagship public initiative — a year-round platform connecting climate science, Black ecological knowledge, Afrofuturist thinking, and cultural production to build new visions of planetary health.
Now in its third year, EAF operates through three interconnected components:
The Summit. An annual convening in Oakland where scientists, artists, technologists, policymakers, and community members gather to think across disciplines, build cross-sector relationships, and generate ideas that no single field could produce alone.
The Commons. A curated collection of essays, data, books, films, podcasts, and educational materials for educators, researchers, and cultural workers shaping how we understand and respond to the climate crisis.
The Network. A growing community of practitioners, scholars, and organizations connected through shared frameworks and a commitment to translating Black ecological knowledge into action — from the grassroots to the institutional scale.
